Summary
The previous pages provide you with some areas that need to be addressed in considering a franchise.
As with most important decisions it is advisable to seek the input from those with experience and knowledge.
Franchise advisors mostly act as an agent for the franchisor and will receive a fee for services rendered should you purchase a franchise business through them. They can only act for one party, so be sure that they declare who they are working for. Be wary of advisers who may take a fee from a prospective franchisee to "verify" a franchise and then also take a fee from a franchisor.
Deal with advisers you already know but make sure they have sufficient expertise in the specialist area of franchising. They too, should provide you with a written disclosure of their experience and qualifications. If possible, it may also be an advantage to choose an advisor that is a member of the Franchise Council of Australia.
Also we strongly recommend that you obtain independent advice on the contents of the Franchise Agreement from a solicitor who is experienced in franchising.
Risks are a part of business and with awareness and diligently doing your homework you will be better placed to make the right decision for you.
