- Examine the
basic strengths of the business in its market,
- Is there wide
public awareness and acceptance of the product or service? Is
it properly protected by registered trade marks and patents, if
appropriate?
- Does the
product or service have scope for development? Innovation is not
enough without proof of staying power. Avoid products in
declining markets. Avoid "fads",
- Assess the
competition in terms of market share, management effectiveness,
product quality and price,
- Establish who
controls the prices in your prospective franchise. Who is
responsible for product warranties and the cost of repairs or
defective goods,
- What is the
source of supply of the products and the terms of trade? Is
there an alternative supply in case of need?
